The book prize this year has been extremely successful. There were more books nominated for the book prize than in any previous year and selecting the winner was a difficult task for our judges. All the nominated texts were of a high standard, however, a winner was decided upon.
I am delighted to announce that Dr Jane Monckton-Smith’s book, Murder, Gender and the Media: Narratives of Dangerous Love Palgrave Macmillan has been selected as the winner.
The following is a quote from one of our judges:
This book demonstrates excellent scholarship grounded in feminist theory, directly contributing to numerous areas of feminist research. Interdisciplinary in its approach, this book advances the studies of emotion, media studies, violence against women (VAW), criminology and sexuality… It demonstrates an excellent command of the subject matter, and is accessible to those who have little or no prior expertise in this area. It is clear and highly engaging from the start, well written and perfectly structured, providing convincing insights into media representations and the inside workings of the police. This brilliantly written, thought provoking book engages readers throughout, and will make useful contributions to wider feminist theory and VAW policies.
Thank you to all the judges, the nominated authors and the publishers for nominating texts. Thank you also to Palgrave Macmillan for sponsoring the book prize.
And, of course, many congratulations to Jane
