Radical Feminism: Feminist Activism in Movement, Dr Finn Mackay
21st November 2-4pm, Insight Institute
Dr Finn Mackay founded the London Feminist Network and the revived London Reclaim the Night in 2004. She left a career in domestic violence prevention education to return to academia and completed her PhD at the University of Bristol on changes in British feminism from the 1960s to the present resurgence post 2000s. Finn is a regular speaker and commentator on women’s rights and social justice issues; and is the author of Radical Feminism: Feminist Activism in Movement Palgrave (2015). Currently Finn is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West of England in Bristol. She is a Trustee of the Feminist Archive and an Ambassador for the Worker’s Educational Association.
Finn will be presenting some research from her book, alongside reflections on current feminist campaigns and trends, to discuss changes in method and motivation within feminist activism from the Second Wave to the present day. The fractures or fault lines in feminist communities have changed, methods of organisation are also transformed, but the issues women are addressing remain stubbornly the same.
