Naomi Pearce, Amy Budd and Amy Tobin are doing research for a forthcoming exhibition at Raven Row gallery into the history of Radnor Terrace in Lambeth, where South Lambeth Women’s Centre was, and which was the centre of a large lesbian squatting community in the mid-1970s. I was somewhat involved with SLWC and have been giving them some help with my reminiscences.
Naomi, Amy and Amy would like to invite anyone involved in consciousness-raising activity, squatting in the 70s, or who remembers seeing ‘A Woman’s Place’ by the artists Shireen Banu, Sue Madden, Catherine Nicholson, Kate Walker and other women associated with the South London Art Group based at 14 Radnor Terrace, to join and contribute anything they remember by attending a ‘knowledge sharing’ evening at the Feminist Library. Information gathered during this event will contribute to a publication for the exhibition on the A Woman’s Place. We also hope to host a public event over one day on this area of research at Raven Row from 22 April to 11 June 2017, if there is enough interest and material on this subject available, and interested participants who would like to discuss, share knowledge and experiences.
Please come to the Feminist Library, 5 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7XW at 7pm on Wednesday 1stFebruary with any memories, memorabilia, or whatever you would like to bring along, or if you would like to find out more about this slice of feminist history. If you cannot make that evening, but can help in any way, feel free to contact the coordinator, Amy Budd, at the address below, and it would also be helpful to know if you are definitely coming, but feel free to just turn up.
